Videographers and photographers alike will be impressed by the smooth, fast and silent autofocus performance, as well as the repeatable manual focus capability. Micro-step aperture control enables the aperture blades smooth and seamless open/close without visible steps, perfect when recording video with variable lighting conditions.

Optimized for video as well as stills, this lens provides smooth and near-silent autofocus performance to complement movie recording applications, and the lens is also compatible with smooth exposure changes while recording video.

The DG Summilux 9mm f/1.7 ASPH lens' optical design comprises twelve elements in nine groups including two aspherical lenses, two ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) lenses and one UHR (Ultra High Refractive Index) lens to suppress both axial and magnification chromatic aberration. Astigmatism is also corrected with these aspherical lenses, achieving high resolving performance. Furthermore, a UHR (Ultra-High Refractive Index) lens achieves uniform image quality from the centre to the edges of the image and contributes to the lens' small size.

A rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out-of-focus quality when using selective focus techniques, and the lens also offers a weather-resistant design to protect the optics during heavy field use and harsh conditions.
