A new release, destined for the hands of Portrait Photographers

While each photographer has their own favoured lens for different occasions, there isn’t much debate about the 85mm focal length being perfect for portrait photography. Throughout recent history this short-telephoto length has been the one that more professional photographers reach for, due to its ability to render a model beautifully, as well as a short disconnect that is created between the photographer and model, which allows them to behave with more freedom, resulting in perfectly unguarded portraits. This New Tamron version, the SP AF 85mm f1.8 is sure to be just as popular within this field, providing all of the qualities discussed above as well as a modern optical design keeping up with the high-resolution full-frame cameras that it is compatible with.

Large f1.8 aperture for handheld shooting and selective focus

Allowing you to move freely about the scene and not be held into one place fiddling with a tripod, this Tamron prime lens features a large f1.8 maximum aperture. Hand-held shooting is a breeze with this lens and the odds of creating tack-sharp images in low-light conditions are stacked firmly in your favour. Further benefiting portrait photographers, is the ability to explore the well-trodden path of selective focus, meaning you can throw entire backgrounds of images into a featureless blur or, stop down the aperture so more of your image is in focus - the large aperture of this Tamron lens leaves it up to you to decide what best suits your shot, and it has to ability to accommodate you easily either way.

VC Stabilisation

In a first for a lens of this focal length, the Tamron 85mm f1.8 has been fitted with Tamron’s excellent VC stabilisation, which remarkably does not add too much bulk to the lens build. This highly-effective stabiliser further negates the need for you to carry a tripod around, with the promise of compensating for any camera shake, leaving you with a sharp final product. Take advantage of this freedom and shoot at slower shutter speeds than would normally be possible and you just might create the most unique and exciting shots of your life so far.

  • One LD Element and One XLD Element - for the correction of aberrations and distortions and the promise of beautifully and accurate colour and contrast in your pictures
  • Moisture-Resistant Construction
  • 9-blade rounded aperture diaphragm - for the more natural and beautiful appearance of out-of-focus areas
  • Compatible with Tamron Tap-in console for firmware updates
